Can someone tell me why (return DayName;) causes an ERROR cause it's an unassigned local variable?

I hope this helps . In order to use the value of a variable, you need to assure that, no matter which path the execution takes, your variable will receive a value. As it is, you didn't assure that, because there is a path which the execution may take and your variable won't receive any value. That is when it doesn't go in the switch-case, which is an optional path.
Also, this validation doesn't take semantics in consideration. Example:
code :
int a;
int b = 1;

if (b == 1) {
    a = 2;
}

return a; // This causes an error

Error 2 Use of unassigned local variable 'Y'

hop of those help? Your variable char Y is not initialized before using. Try to give a default value when declaring.
EDIT It seems that you want the users to input something, and assign it to the variable Y. Try:
code :
Y = Console.ReadKey().KeyChar;

C# Error : Use of unassigned local variable

I hope this helps . The compiler can never be sure that hand is actually initialized. You should either initialize it earlier, or set it to null, so you bypass this compiler check.
So you could do this, but it is in fact bad practice! When changing your code you could end up with a NullReferenceException!
code :
String[] hand = null;
hand = new String[6];

...

hand[i] = theValue;

'Use of unassigned local variable' error inside foreach loop with yield return

To fix the issue you can do This isn't a compiler bug. (There are very few of those around, really, so the chances of hitting one are small.) It's a quite simple bug in your code.
When the value of x is zero, your code enters the else block and yields "0". When the next value is requested, the method continues and executes this line:
code :
yield return DoAnotherThing(s);

Use of unassigned local variable when trying to return bool

this will help The error you're getting is that you're attempting to use dateCheck in it's initial assignment, which is not allowed. In otherwords, you can't do something like int number = number + 1; because number on the right hand side of the assignment is not assigned yet. Of course the line in question must have some other typos in it, because it won't compile at all.
Regardless, you don't really need that line anyway (the variable isn't used anywhere else). If you remove it, your code should work as expected.
code :
public bool IsInPeakSeason(DateTime date)
{
    var startPeak = new DateTime(date.Year, 06, 15);
    var endPeak = new DateTime(date.Year, 08, 15);
    return date >= startPeak && date < endPeak;
}

To fix the issue you can do The compiler doesn't know whether those if statements are going to be executed, so it considers the worst case scenario, and realizes that one or both variables may not be initialized before they are used in Add.
The solution is to initialize them at declaration, like this:
