How can I click on one element and listen for a change in another element's value?

I think the issue was by ths following , Move the change event code out of the click event code and in the click event code just update the email field as needed.
But, you'll need to manually trigger the change event of that field because change only fires when the field loses focus, which it won't if done with code.
code :
$('a[data-one]').on('click',  function() {
   $('input#field_email_address').val("CHANGED!");
   $('input#field_email_address').trigger("change");
});

$('input#field_email_address').on('change',  function() {
  console.log('email value was changed');
});
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<a href="#" data-one="something">Test</a>
<input id="field_email_address">

Hope that helps you can use onTouchListener and intercept ACTION_DOWN event for showing alert. on users choice change checked state of you checkbox programatically.
example:
code :
checkbox.setOnTouchListener(new OnTouchListener() {
    @Override
    public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) {
        if(event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN){

            //show alert
            return true; //this will prevent checkbox from changing state
        }
        return false;
    }
});

around this issue I have a directive which I will apply on certain anchor elements to preventDefault(). , You need to specify the args, too:
code :
@Directive({
  selector: '[myDirective]'
})
export class MyDirective {
  @HostListener('click', ['$event']) /* note args array */
  onClick(event) {
    console.log(event);
    event.preventDefault();
  }
}

To fix the issue you can do Call remove() directly on the element - use $('#modal').remove() instead - see demo below:
code :
$(document).ready(function() {
  $('#showModal').on('click', function() {
    $('.container').append(modalHtml)
  })

  $(document).on('click', '#closeModal', function() {
    $('#modal').remove();
  })

  var modalHtml = '<div id="modal"> <div class="modal-bg"></div><div class="modal-content"> <p>this is a modal</p><span id="closeModal">close</span> </div></div>'
})
#showModal {
  margin: 50px 40%;
  font-size: 50px;
}

#modal {
  display: block;
}

#modal .modal-bg {
  position: absolute;
  top: 0;
  left: 0;
  right: 0;
  bottom: 0;
}

#modal .modal-bg:before {
  content: "";
  display: block;
  height: 100%;
  position: absolute;
  top: 0;
  left: 0;
  width: 100%;
  background-color: rgba(43, 43, 43, 0.5);
}

#modal .modal-content {
  width: 50%;
  margin: 20px auto;
  position: relative;
  background: black;
  color: #fff;
  padding: 20px;
}

#modal .modal-content #closeModal {
  padding: 10px;
  margin: 10px;
  border: 1px solid #fff;
}

#modal .modal-content #closeModal:hover {
  cursor: pointer;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="container">
  <button id="showModal"> Show modal</button>
</div>

Listen to click events on elements that aren't appended

it fixes the issue As mentioned in comments, either overwrite HTMLButtonElement.prototype.click:
code :
const nativeClick = HTMLButtonElement.prototype.click;
HTMLButtonElement.prototype.click = function(...args) {
  console.log('Click');
  nativeClick.apply(this, args);
};

document.createElement('button').click();
const nativeCreateElement = Document.prototype.createElement;
Document.prototype.createElement = function(...args) {
  const createdElement = nativeCreateElement.apply(this, args);
  if (typeof args[0] === 'string' && args[0].toLowerCase() === 'button') {
    createdElement.addEventListener('click', () => {
      console.log('Click');
    });
  }
  return createdElement;
}

document.createElement('button').click();

I am answering this post if someone has to face the similar problem.
