help you fix your problem I have a dictionary declared in the field such as: , You have to cast the ViewState back to it's original DataType
code :
operationDetails = ViewState["operationDetails"] as Dictionary<String, string[]>;

around this issue I'm having the exact same problem with my site. Part of the viewstate data is visible on top of page. Works fine locally. Even my javascript code is very similar to yours.
Only happens on webkit browsers (safari/chrome).

will help you OK, so the answer is literally: "Set up a new server with all the same software as the last one and try again" and it works now.

this will help A theory suggests that as the ViewState is loaded between Page_init and Page_load, the value you get during Page_init is not from a loaded viewstate, and if you set it, it is probably going to be overridden when the framework actually loads it in the following step on the page life cycle.
You could try loading your controls initially by overriding the CreateChildControls method.

may help you . I've seen this too. I believe the cause is search engine accesses -- something must be missing in the way that the search engine accesses the page. At least the issue went away when I added a robots.txt file and told the search engines not to spider my login page (with the form and antiforgery token).
