like below fixes the issue On an xpage in an edit box I would like to fire some ssjs (set scopevariable, call a function in a managed bean, perform a partial refresh) when the backspace key is used. , it became something like this:
code :
<xp:button value="Queue" id="btnQueue" styleClass="btn-primary">

    <xp:eventHandler event="onclick" submit="true" refreshMode="complete">
        <xp:this.action>

            <xp:actionGroup>
                <xp:executeScript>
                    <xp:this.script>
                        <![CDATA[#{javascript://my action(s) here}]]>
                    </xp:this.script>
                </xp:executeScript>

            </xp:actionGroup>
        </xp:this.action>

        <xp:this.script>
            <![CDATA[confirm("Are you sure you want to change from " + XSP.getElementById("#{id:inputFrom}").value +" to " + XSP.getElementById("#{id:inputTo}").value + "?")]]>
        </xp:this.script>
    </xp:eventHandler>
</xp:button>

Hope that helps Is the getComponent() code in the SSJS Script Library? getComponent doesn't work in a Script Library as far as I know - it doesn't have a context to navigate the component tree to find any components. I would expect it to fail without debug and wouldn't be surprised if it hangs in debug.
Does debugging work if you pass the result of getComponent("dspDocUNID") to your function in the SSJS library?

hop of those help? Is it failing on a converter / validator? That can cause it to skip out of the lifecycle before Invoke Application phase. To test whether a button is actually working, you can also use "Do not validate or update data". Then the SSJS runs in Apply Request Values phase. If the SSJS is triggered (you won't have the latest data from the browser in the data model or components though), then it's another good bet for converter or validator failure.

Does that help Your question does not clarify as to the allow-pattern implementation. The first hit I get on Google is this post on CodePen. Assuming that's what you're using, take a close look at this:
code :
if (!keyCodeChar.match(new RegExp(attrs.allowOnlyPattern, "i"))) {
    return false;
}
var controlKeyCodes = [8, 46, 37, 39];
if (!keyCodeChar.match(new RegExp(attrs.allowOnlyPattern, "i")) && controlKeyCodes.indexOf(keyCode) === -1) {
    return false;
}

To fix this issue I developed an IE9 polyfill for the backspace/delete/cut.
