To fix the issue you can do According to Laravel's documentation, we should write Custom If Statements in boot() method in AppServiceProvider, but what if they're too many? , You can write it in a custom service provider for that task
code :
php artisan make:provider BladeDirectivesServiceProvider
'providers' => [
    ...
    App\Providers\BladeDirectivesServiceProvider::class
]

I think the issue was by ths following , After Blade has compiled the PHP code, Laravel puts the result into a cached file in the storage/framework/views/ directory. That file is then called directly, so you don't need any eval() statements.

like below fixes the issue Blade is a template engine, therefore it doesn't expect you to define variables, it expects those variables to already be defined.
{{ data }} is equivalent to in Blade 4 and in Blade 5. So yes, this will not work as you expect.
code :
  @foreach( $user->attendees as $attendee )
          <?php
            $registered = ($attendee_registered = $program->attendees->find($attendee))? $attendee_registered->pivot->registered: 0;
            $paid = ($attendee_registered = $program->attendees->find($attendee))? $attendee_registered->pivot->paid: 0;
          ?>
  @endforeach

it fixes the issue One way could be to change render method in Exception's Handler. Something like:
code :
// app_path('Exceptions/Handler.php');

/**
 * Render an exception into an HTTP response.
 *
 * @param  \Illuminate\Http\Request  $request
 * @param  \Exception  $exception
 * @return \Illuminate\Http\Response
 */
public function render($request, Exception $exception)
{
    if ($exception instanceof \Illuminate\Foundation\Http\Exceptions\MaintenanceModeException) {
        return response()
            ->view('maintenance.down', [
                'message' => 'Come back later.'
            ], 200)
            ->header('Content-Type', 'text/html; charset=utf-8');
    }

    return parent::render($request, $exception);
}
