it should still fix some issue it's the same rule for bytes, you have to use re.DOTALL when using dots if you want to match all characters including newline
code :
match_iter = re.compile(pattern,flags=re.DOTALL).finditer(bytechain)

hope this fix your issue I don't understand your intent of doing a reverse regular expression. findall() seems a natural way of selecting your times, like this:
code :
' '.join(re.findall(r'\w{3,6}day:\s*\d{1,2}:\d{1,2}[ap]m\s*-\s*\d{1,2}:\d{1,2}[ap]m', hr))
'Monday: 11:30am - 9:30pm Tuesday: 11:30am - 9:30pm Wednesday: 11:30am - 10:00pm Thursday: 11:30am - 10:00pm Friday: 11:30am - 10:30pm Saturday: 11:00am - 10:30pm Sunday: 10:30am - 9:30pm'

fixed the issue. Will look into that further I want to go through the following text to extract some certain elements based on the java regex patterns:
code :
String text = ...; // your text
Pattern pat = Pattern.compile( "『([^』]*)』" );
Matcher mat = pat.matcher( text );
if( mat.find() ){
    System.out.println( mat.group(1) );
}
while( mat.find() ){
    System.out.println( mat.group(1) );
}

seems to work fine I'm stuck with a problem concerning RegEx patterns and I hope somebody would explain it to me: , In this case, change your pattern to:
code :
"\\b\\Q" + object.getName() + "\\E(?<=\\b|®)"
"(?<=\\s|^)\\Q" + object.getName() + "\\E(?=\\s|$)"
"(?<=\\s|^)" + Pattern.quote(object.getName()) + "(?=\\s|$)"

this one helps. In Haskell, while pattern matching, I can use @ to get the entire structure in a pattern. (For easier Googling, this structure is known as an as-pattern.) , You can use as:
code :
let f = function
| [] -> (* ... *)
| (x::xs) as l ->
  (*
   here:
   - x is the head
   - xs is the tail
   - l is the whole list
  *)

hope this fix your issue In Java, .- is actually equivalent of [\s\S]*? or (?s).*?, or - to play it safe - (?s:.*?), because . in Lua patterns matches any char (including line break chars) and - is the lazy (non-greedy) quantifier that matches 0 or more chars, i.e. *? in regular NFA regex.
See Lua patterns:
