I hope this helps . As you tagged your question tsql, I assume that you are using sql-server.
In this case, you can have JOINs in your UPDATE statement. Based on the query you displayed, the syntax would look like :
code :
UPDATE a
SET a.ucIIWBin1 = c.cBinLocationDescription
FROM WhseStk a
INNER JOIN StkItem b ON b.StockLink = a.WHStockLink
INNER JOIN _btblBINLocation c on c.idBinLocation = a.iBinLocationID
WHERE a.WHWhseID = 5

will be helpful for those in need Your subquery doesn't break ties. If there are multiple measurements with the latest unixtime, it will return multiple rows. Because SQL Server can't know which row it is supposed to use to update the column, it will raise a Subquery returned more than 1 value. error.
You could use row_number() to break ties:
code :
update  c
set     latest_measurement = m.fill_level
from    container c
join    (
        select  row_number() over (
                    partition by container_id
                    order by unixtime desc) as rn
        ,       *
        from    measurement
        ) m
on      c.id = m.container_id
        and m.rn = 1 -- Latest measurement only
update  container
set     latest_measurement =
        (
        select  top 1 fill_level
        from    measurement m
        where   container.id = m.container_id
        order by
                unixtime desc
        )

it fixes the issue Try this : Before performing this operation take back of your Table. I am pretty much sure about my solution but don't want to take risk :)
code :
UPDATE aufgabenliste.aufgabendefinition
SET tagesauswahl = TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(CONCAT(tagesauswahl,'.2010'), 'DDD.MM.YYYY') , 'DDD.MM')
WHERE aufgabentyp = 4;

Does that help I have two tables in my SQL database: , Yes you can perform the Update via a Join. Notice the alias A.
code :
Update A set score1=B.scoreA
            ,score2=B.scoreB
            ,score3=B.scoreC
 From  TableA A
 Join  TableB B on A.identifier = B.identifier
