Storing streamed tweets in a list for further analysis

Storing streamed tweets in a list for further analysis

I wish this helpful for you I am building a data mining app to collect tweets using the Twitter streaming API (via tweepy) and run a suite of NLP algorithms on it. So far all I have been able to do is get the tweets to be written into an external file. Due to the volume of tweets I am going to collect is a 100 at a time (pretty small) and deployment concerns, I wish to collect these tweets to a dictionary or list for further analysis. However, I have failed in doing this. The code I have so far is given below: , You can use the on_data function in your class.
code :
def on_data(self, data):
    # Converting data , which is an object, into JSON
    tweet = json.loads(data)

    # my_tweet is our list declared globally
    my_tweet.append(tweet)

I hope this helps you . I've been doing some work recently with Latent Dirichlet Allocation. The general idea is that documents contain words that are generated from topics. What you could try doing is loading a corpus of documents known to be about the topics you are interested in, update with the tweets of interest, and then select tweets that have strong probabilities for the same topics as your known documents.
I use R for LDA (package:topicmodels and package:lda), but I think there are some prebuilt python tools for this too. I would probably steer away from trying to write your own unless you have a solid grounding in Bayesian statistics.

Hope this helps From your code I understand you want to remove tweets in userid, one way to do it would be like this,
code :
usafull_nobias <- subset(usafull, !(screenName %in% userid$User))

should help you out From comments: after examining the contents of the json data-file, all the tweets are in the odd number if rows. The even numbers are blank.
This caused a json.decoder.JSONDecodeError.
code :
with open('brasil.json') as f:
    for n, line in enumerate(f, 1):
        if n % 2 == 1: # this line is in an odd-numbered row
            tweets.append(json.loads(line))
with open('brasil.json', 'r') as f:
    for line in f:
        try:
            tweets.append(json.loads(line))
        except json.decoder.JSONDecodeError:
            pass # skip this line

wish of those help Sentiment140 is on GoogleApp Engine, so you can bet they are using Python to do the task. Python is really good for this and has great libraries for Sentiment Analysis (NLTK) and consume the twitter APIs. There are also great tutorials out there. You could follow this steps:
Grab the last N tweets for your keyword (with tweepy lib) Example provided. Store them in an array Pass the array to a Bayesian Classifier built with Python's NLTK [see links] Get the result of the analysis in near real-time Present them to the user if you want (in a Django/Flask template, etc)
