Does that help Use the returning clause with the SQL statement. Here's an example that gets an ID which is assigned by a trigger in the database:
code :
const createSql =
 `insert into employees (
    first_name,
    last_name,
    email,
    phone_number,
    hire_date,
    job_id,
    salary,
    commission_pct,
    manager_id,
    department_id
  ) values (
    :first_name,
    :last_name,
    :email,
    :phone_number,
    :hire_date,
    :job_id,
    :salary,
    :commission_pct,
    :manager_id,
    :department_id
  ) returning employee_id
  into :employee_id`;

async function create(emp) {
  const employee = Object.assign({}, emp);

  employee.employee_id = {
    dir: oracledb.BIND_OUT,
    type: oracledb.NUMBER
  }

  const result = await database.simpleExecute(createSql, employee);

  employee.employee_id = result.outBinds.employee_id[0];

  return employee;
}

module.exports.create = create;

hop of those help? Assuming you're using SQL Server, I had a similar problem a while ago. I'm not sure if it's related but ADODB would get "confused" by the "# records affected" messages that were generated by SQL Server.
We solved this by adding
code :
SET NOCOUNT ON

I wish did fix the issue. I'm afraid, there isn't a way to get the updated row count directly, but a possibly work-around would be to wrap your update statements in a stored procedure, and from the stored procedure return the row count as the result, maybe as an OUT parameter.
Cheers, Anjana.

it should still fix some issue If you're trying to return the maximum value of a sequence-generated PK on the table then I'd just run a "Select max(id) .." directly afterwards. If other sessions are also modifying the table then maybe reading the currval of the sequence would be better.

I wish this help you I finally found it. The problem was related to PreparedStatement.
According to Javadoc by Oracle here, I cannot get the count of records affected by each query when I use PreparedStatement. So when I converted my code to Statement it worked perfectly.

will be helpful for those in need As far as I know there are no built-in CodeIgniter functionality for that. You could compare old value with new value though :
code :
$last_record = $this->db->get_where('table1', array('id' => $id))->row_array();
$this->db->query("UPDATE `table1` SET name = $name,......................,column10=10 WHERE id=$id")->result();
// $this->db->affected_rows();
$new_record = $this->db->get_where('table1', array('id' => $id))->row_array();
$affected_columns = array_diff($new_record, $last_record);
foreach ($affected_columns as $field => $value) {
    echo "[field] : $field\r\n";
    echo "[old_value] : $last_record[$field]\r\n";
    echo "[new_value] : $value\r\n";
    echo "\r\n";
}
