wish helps you Looks like -RT does work after all. I used quotation marks (as shown in IFTTT's own example) which broke the search function. Instead of using "#hashtag -RT" to fetch all the Tweets without Retweets, you should use #hashtag -RT, without quotation marks. Otherwise it won't fetch the Tweets at all.

I hope this helps you . I'm currently scraping tweets based on certain keywords using r v. 1.0.44 and the package twitteR (newest version). Specifically I use the following command: , You can add -filter:retweets to your query:
code :
 my_twitter_data <- searchTwitter("#aleppo -filter:retweets", n = 40000,
                                  lang = "en", since = '2016-12-12',
                                  until = "2016-12-13", retryOnRateLimit = 120)

Any of those help I have found concatenating "-filter:retweets" to the end of your query string works best.
If you simply add -RT you might run into issues with accidentally filtering tweets containing "RT" for example "Russia Today" will use that string quite a lot!

Exclude retweets from twitter streaming api using tweepy

this one helps. Just checking a tweet's text to see if it starts with 'RT' is not really a robust solution. You need to make a decision about what you will consider a retweet, since it isn't exactly clear-cut. The Twitter API docs explain that tweets with 'RT' in the tweet text aren't officially retweets.
