fixed the issue. Will look into that further I searched around and found there is a way to get compatibility level of a database in powershell through something like: , I figured it out!
code :
Import-Module SqlServer

$as = New-Object Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Server

$c = $as.Databases | Where-Object { $_.ID -eq $Database }

Write-Host "Compatibility level =" $c.CompatibilityLevel

seems to work fine I am not familiar with this API, but I see that the $as.Databases property is of type DatabaseCollection. The DatabaseCollection class does have indexers that take either an Int32 or a String, like you're attempting to use with $as.databases["$Database"].
Note that the documentation for the String indexer says the parameter is an "identifier" for the database to be returned. Also note that the Database class has separate properties for ID and Name, so there is a distinction between the two. So, my suggestion is, make sure you are passing the ID, not the name, when you try to retrieve a Database instance that way.
code :
$as.Databases | Where-Object { $_.ID -eq $Database }
$as.Databases | Where-Object { $_.Name -eq $Database }

I hope this helps you .

around this issue You only need to worry about the Compatibility Level of a database if you'll be restoring a backup of your database onto an older version of the server software. If all of your database servers are 2008 (100) or 2008 R2 (110) then you have nothing to worry about.
Raising the compatibility-level of a database won't break anything unless you're using deprecated or obsolete features, such as ntext instead of nvarchar(MAX). SSMS should give you a warning or some set of messages if you raise the Compatibility Level and it detects a problem with your schema.
