it should still fix some issue I wrote a program to check mails with JavaMail. Here is the code: , You can solve this problem by converting pop3 to pop3s like this:
code :
properties.setProperty("mail.store.protocol", "pop3s");
properties.setProperty("mail.pop3s.host", popHost);
properties.setProperty("mail.pop3s.port", String.valueOf(openPort));
properties.setProperty("mail.pop3s.auth", "true");
        "javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory" );
properties.setProperty("mail.pop3s.ssl.trust", "*");

store = session.getStore( "pop3s" );

JavaMail to send email through vps, require NO authentication, but get AuthenticationFailedException - why?

this will help POP before SMTP authentication basically means you need to be able to prove that you can fetch your mail using POP3 (using proper authentication) before you will be allowed to send mail using SMTP (without authentication).
Using the Java Mail API, you can do the authentication to the POP3 server like this :
code :
Store store = ssn.getStore("pop3");
store.connect("mailhost", Username, Password);

wish help you to fix your issue After making the changes suggested by Bill Shannon it turned out the error was actually a logic error where getSmtpPassword() was returning the IMAP password (which led to successful login) under some circumstances, although the suggestions where not what solved the problem, the updated code is as follows:
code :
public boolean authenticateSMTP( SMTPConfiguration smtpConfiguration ) throws MessagingException {
    try {
        Properties properties = new Properties(  );
        properties.put( "mail.smtp.auth", true );
        properties.put( "mail.smtp.host", "smtp.gmail.com" );
        properties.put( "mail.smtp.port", 465 );
        properties.put( "mail.smtp.ssl.enable", true);

        Transport transport = Session.getInstance( properties ).getTransport();
        transport.connect( getSmtpUsername(), getSmtpPassword() );
        return true;
    } catch ( AuthenticationFailedException e ) {
        return false;

With these it helps You are mixing TLS and SSL configurations, and it's not correct. You need to choose the one to use. In particular, if you want to use SSL you should use something like this:

How to reuse Connection with JavaMail to avoid AuthenticationFailedException: Too many login attempts?

hop of those help? Presumably, transport.connect(EMAIL_FROM, PASSWORD) only needs to execute once, not every time you send an email. To that end, you should refactor to remove the creation of the properties, the obtaining of the session and transport, and the connection from transport away from the sendEmail method.
